Sabaody is really a masterpiece in writing because we did technically knew how everything was ready for a chatastrophe. You even knew that sure, something would happen again bc when was the last time anything went smoothly? We’d been told how “the marine headquarters is getting close” since before Water 7. We had been introduced to Kuma’s ability on Thriller Bark. We knew how strong an admiral is. We knew the consequences of punching a Tenryuubito. Yet, we spent 400 episodes watching Luffy and the Co doing the impossible, beating gods, Shichibukais, saving countries, fucking walking into one of the three main marine bases, Enies Lobby, and burn it to the ground. Escaping a Buster call. Kicking the most elite CP9’s ass. We got used to how they can pull through the worst, impossible as it seem every time. Even some enemies had mercy on them before, like Kuma and Kuzan, bc even they saw how genuinely good these guys are. Here though? It fucking blows up in your face. You thought luck aways saves them? You are wrong and also fuck you. Love is dead and your dog too.
Anyway this post was gonna be about that Oda, look, Sabaody was some top writing. Amazing. Brilliant. If you ever pull this shit again I’m kicking your ass.
The analysis is correct u-u
Oda is a GREAT author. Not only mangaka by drawing, but as a writer too. He’s a GENIUS.
Oh and also, there’s so many episodes there that shift the tension. Initially we are really suspicious bc we are warned by Hatchi, see what utter assholes the Tenryuubito are and of course r he punch happens. But! It only makes the common people cower in fear, Law and Kidd, the two other strongest-looking rookies are laughing too. We get a really fun scene when the three of them beat a bunch of marines. The freaking first mate of the Pirate King, Rayleigh is introduced!!!! And he’s obviously on Luffy’s side. We get the news about Ace’s execution here, and how all the Shichibukai would be there against the Whitebeard pirates, so suddenly no one cares about a Tenryuubito. And then they, for once, fuck off in time from the auction house and we see Law and Kidd dealing with “Kuma”, so we are like fuck yeah, it’s finally not them on the short end of the stick.
Then in Shakki’s bar we get that amazing tale of Rogers, Crocus and Rayleigh. How Shanks were telling everyone about Luffy and how Rayleigh couldn’t wait to meet him. How he know what happened in the void century and how Robin refused to ask him. How Luffy refuses to even know if One Piece surely exists! There’s so much in him that reminds people Rogers! How Shanks is waiting for him on the other side of the Red Line!!! This is such an amazing, peaceful, uplifting interlude!! We are suddenly filled with hope and excitement for the New Word! We totally forget the situation outside and then when we are reminded again when Rayleigh asks them for 3 days to take care of the ship, the tension is still totally gone. What’s that 3 days with allies like that? After shit like Enies Lobby or Kuma?
I remember thinking how Luffy saying this sounded wierd when he asked Ivankov to give him another shot to fight, but now I realise that he meant “only brother alive” bc he was thinking of Sabo through the whole Impel Down-Marineford ordeal
and Ace too was thinking of him when he rather died than risk losing another brother
i love how nami told zoro to stop making light of other people’s troubles. she doesn’t even know the extent of Sanji’s problems but she stuck by him while everyone else was just chilling. she did the same for usopp at water 7; tried to speak up on his behalf. she ran into an oncoming aqua laguna for robin. she threatened franky she’d kill him if he did anything to chopper. she cried for luffy when she learned that he lost his brother. she stuck by zoro’s side all night and tended to him at thriller bark. she forgave Hatchin and Jinbei for their complicity in Arlong. She refused to leave the children at Punk Hazard. god i’m still not over just how complex and wonderful nami is. she’s so mature, so wise, compassionate understanding.
seeing people I literally NEVER expected to even tolerate monsterfucking willingly putting content on their blogs about tom hardy having a slime monster up his ass is quite honestly the only thing that makes me want to see it. what kind of movie has this much raw power? I must find out
honestly it’s so annoying sometimes that One Piece is “just” a manga because if it was a novel or even just a fucking Netflix series like GoT became, everyone would be all over it as a huge achievement of human culture. But since it’s not just written but also drawn, suddenly it’s written off as just some funky anime. as if the Karamazov Brothes were ignored only because it’s got a few illustrations in it! crazy. I’ve seen and read and analysed a lot of stories but it’s very rare to see such a brilliant, complex writing as One Piece has, not even metioning the fascianating charaters and the general wholesomeness that I didn’t even notice back then as a kid. There’s so much people irl or even here tumblr that I KNOW would be all over it and that they would appreciate all the tiny nuances it has that’s hard to notice and basically most literature lacks it but since it’s an anime I know that there’s no way in hell that they’d even conscider trying it
